Venue Information

There is no destination more fitting than San Francisco as a home for the CAPCOA Climate Change Forum.  The “city by the bay” has long been recognized for a progressive and proactive stance on environmental protection and wholeheartedly “walks the walk” when it comes to backing up good intentions with measurable actions.

The CAPCOA Climate Change forum will take place at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis August 30-31, 2010.  This venue was selected for their recognized ability to incorporate sustainable practices and environmental concern into each component of business operations.

Green Initiatives

From the minute you step into the lobby of the San Francisco Marriott Marquis green initiatives are noticeable beginning with paperless check-in and fully compostable to-go containers at the deli.  The Marriott has implemented an extensive recycling program run by a dedicated coordinator. Below are some of the innovative steps the San Francisco Marriott Marquis has taken to be named the #1 recycling hotel in the U.S.

  • Only hotel and building in San Francisco that has 3 large compactors dedicated to recycling/compost.
  • Donates more than 50,000 lbs of leftover food, and more 250,000 of used furnishing/supplies to nonprofits.
  • Diverts more pounds of solid waste from the waste stream (qualified by certified weight records) than any other U.S. hotel.
  • Recycles or donates more than 2,000,000 pounds annually, diverting more than 50 truckloads from the local landfills.
  • Captures more than three-quarters of a million pounds of food for compost— enough to fill the hotel’s lobby.
  • Recycles more than 300,000 pounds of cardboard— enough to make 100,000 pizza boxes.
  • Recycles more than 500,000 newspapers—enough wood-pulp to save a small forest.
  • Recycles more than ½ million bottles and cans—saving enough energy to power the lights in the hotel’s 1499 rooms for a month.
  • Donates more than 50,000 pounds of food leftovers to local nonprofits, equal to 30,000 servings.
  • Donates more than 100,000 pounds of used furnishings and toiletries (partials) to local nonprofits and shelters.
  • Uses fully compostable to-go containers and eating utensils in its 4th St Deli sports bar.  The hotel uses no styrofoam or plastic.
