A Green Event

CAPCOA and the organizers of the CAPCOA Climate Change Forum have developed a comprehensive outline of best practices to ensure that this event reaches ambitious sustainability goals as set by the event Steering Committee.  We have developed a plan that seeks to incorporate environmental considerations throughout the planning and execution of all stages of the meeting in order to minimize the negative impact on the environment.

This sustainability plan has identified specific initiatives in nine key areas including; audio visual, accommodations, communications, destination, exhibits, food & beverage, meeting venue, event planning and on-site office set up and transportation. Standards have been developed in conjunction with the Accepted Practices Exchange of the Convention Industry Council, the United States Environmental Protection Agency, and CERES (Coalition for Environmentally Responsible Economies).

We would be happy to share additional details about the sustainability initiatives planned for this event.  Please contact us at any time via email by clicking here and let us know of any suggestions, ideas, or opportunities that we may have missed, or if you would like to become a partner in recycling, offsetting, or the overall “greening” of this event.

Some of the initiatives included in this sustainability plan include:

  • Venue Selection:  The San Francisco Marriott Marquis has been selected as the official conference venue.  The Marriott is committed to sustainable hotel practices and offers a recycling program that has earned two San Francisco CORY (Commercial Recycling) awards in the past five years.
  • Printing and Paper:  Attendees will receive the majority of their pre-event correspondence electronically. Any printed materials will be printed on recycled paper using vegetable or soy inks when possible.  Multiple recycling receptacles will be placed throughout the venue.
  • Recycling:  Incentives to participate in recycling or conservation efforts will be created via a “raffle” for which tickets can be earned.  Prizes will include eco-friendly products and services.
  • Travel:  Information and links to public transportation options are available on the event website.  Use of public transportation will be highly encouraged.
